Payment for Services

Water meters shall be read every third month for residential users, monthly for industrial users. A bill for service of water and sewer consumed for that period shall be mailed to the account holder on the first of the following month after the meter readings are obtained. Bills may be paid in person at the office, through the Internet, by Telephone or mailed to: City of Oregon, Division of Water, 5330 Seaman Road, Oregon, OH 43616-2633. The Division of Water has no authorized collection agencies. A drop box is located in the outside wall by the entrance to the east wing of the city building for after hour payments (check only). Payments made in person may be in the form of cash, check or money order. No two party or post dated checks will be accepted. All checks returned by the bank “unpaid” will be charged $20.00. Cash must be paid in lieu of the returned check for continued service. Credit Card payments can be made through the Internet or telephone. See Miscellaneous Prices for tap, meter and Miscellaneous fees.

Direct Payment

The City of Oregon, Division of Water and Wastewater Treatment, Utility Accounts now offers our customers direct payment. Direct payments are the automatic withdrawal of the Water/Wastewater bill payment from your checking or savings account. There are no checks to write or envelopes to address and mail. Simply complete and return an authorization form and your water/wastewater bills will be paid automatically from your checking or savings account. If you have more than one water/wastewater account, please complete a separate authorization form for each account.

The office will prepare and mail your water/wastewater bill as we have in the past so you know your water usage and the amount of the bill. If the account is on Direct Payment the lower left side of the bill will have DIRECT PAYMENT printed on it. The date which appears in the “DUE DATE” is the date the bank will withdraw the money from your account, or the next business day if it falls on a weekend or holiday. It is important to remember that inadequate funds in your bank account to cover the payment will be handled like a returned check. Both your bank and the Utility Office will assess an appropriate service charge. If you have any questions please contact the Utility Office at (419)698-7039. Final Reading

Any property owner, account holder, firm or corporation may discontinue water services and the responsibility therefore by giving proper notice to the Utility office. The meter will be removed and the water shut off at the curb by the Division. Minimum billing will be charged and responsibility for payment will be the owner’s until a final reading has been ordered.

When Water Accounts Become Delinquent

Bills not paid within the designated period become delinquent and the service covered thereby will be discontinued and the water shut off. The water department sends out bills as a matter of convenience to the owner or water consumer, and failure to receive same will not relieve anyone of the responsibility for prompt payment. A $50.00 penalty will be charged once a service person has been dispatched to shut off service. Full payment of the bill plus a $50.00 penalty must be paid to continue or restore service at that point.
