Jake and Cooper’s Bark Park sits on 2.3 acres of gated land in Oregon which is divided for small and large dogs with an open shelter forthcoming that will span the two areas. The park features two doggy drinking fountains, oak tree saplings which will grow to offer ample shade, and a peaceful environment for dogs and families to come and enjoy together.
Toledo Unleashed will operate the park similar to the Glass City Dog Park in Toledo, Ohio. Yearly memberships will be available to dog owners and the park will be monitored each business day to ensure it is maintained and members follow the rules.
This new Dog Park was in the planning stages for a while and last year, after conversations with the Schaffer family, the City partnered with them to make Jake & Cooper’s Bark Park a reality. Their son, Jacob, tragically lost his life in the summer of 2021 from addiction and mental health. The family would like to pay forward the love that Jacob had for his Australian Shepherd puppy, Cooper, in a positive and meaningful way.
The Dog Park has been set up as a 501 c3 nonprofit, so donations will be gratefully accepted to honor his memory and make this Dog Park a peaceful and heartfelt place for all to visit. For immediate questions, please contact Larry Schaffer at 419-349-7981 or 419-698-4301.
The “Leash Cutting” Grand Opening event for the Bark Park was held on Jacob’s birthday; May 23rd, 2023. It brought everyone together to truly showcase just how wonderful and supportive our community is. We will keep posting updates as they come here and on our City of Oregon Facebook page.
