The Oregon Fire/Rescue Department (OFRD) is a combination department. Currently, OFRD has a staff of twenty-one full-time employees (IAFF), four full-time Battalion Chiefs, a full-time Fire Chief, Assistant Chief and Deputy Chief.  Forty part-time employees are covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the City and the Oregon Part-Time Firefighters’ Association (OPTFA). Our call volume is 4000 runs per year.

Last summer OFRD transitioned from a primarily paid-per-call department supplemented by full-time staff, to a full-time department supplemented by part-time and paid-per-call staff.  Seven full-time personnel are assigned to each shift, as well as a Battalion Chief. There are two part-time positions assigned to each day, with the shifts split into 0600-1800 and 1800-0600.  Part-time personnel are also alerted to respond to general alarms (structure fires, industrial accidents, entrapment etc.).

OFRD is hiring part-time firefighters to work the daily shifts as well as respond to general alarms if available.  All part-time employees will operate under the current CBA of OPTFA and may join OPTFA if so desired. Candidates must possess the following minimum certifications, credentials and expectations:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Current State of Ohio FFI
  • Current State of Ohio EMT
  • AHA CPR Card
  • Must pass a background check
  • Must pass the ORFD part-time agility test
  • Residency required in Lucas, Wood or Ottawa County
  • Availability to work shifts
  • Previous experience highly desired

Current rate of pay is $20.20 per hour with a raise July 1, 2022 which will bring the rate to $20.75 per hour.  Overtime is paid for all City recognized holidays.
