Work has begun to plug and abandon four orphan oil and gas wells located on properties owned by the Oregon Economic Development Foundation (OEDF), north of Corduroy Road and west of Wynn Road.
The Oregon Fire Department, in coordination with the Public Service Department, has met with the contractor and ODNR to review site safety and environmental considerations. Work is anticipated to take approximately six to eight weeks to complete.
This project is being completed through the State of Ohio’s Orphan Well Plugging Program and is administered by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). A qualified contractor has been retained to perform the work, with oversight and inspections conducted by ODNR. This effort is fully funded through federal dollars provided by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and does not utilize local tax dollars. The Oregon Economic Development Foundation (OEDF) successfully secured these funds to address long-standing environmental conditions on these properties.
